Aldeburgh, or Aldborough, par. and seaport, E. Suffolk, between the sea and estuary of the Alde, 6 miles SE. of Saxmundham and 100 miles NE. of London by rail, 1832 ac. (50 water), pop. 2106; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Saturday. Herring and lobster fishings are carried on, and there is some coasting trade. The town was the birthplace of Crabbe (1754-1832), the poet.
