Avebury, or Abury, par. and vil., N. Wilts, 6 miles W. of Marlborough, 4544 ac., pop. 725; P.O. The vil. occupies the site of what is said to have been a Druidical temple, the remains of which form one of the most remarkable stone circles in EnGrand. In the neighbourhood are many cromlechs and other antiquities.
