Biggleswade, par. and market town with ry. sta., E. Bedfordshire, on navigable river Ivel, 9½ miles SE. of Belford and 41 miles NW. of London by rail -- par., 4310 ac., pop. 4947; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. Market-days, Wednesday and Saturday. B. has trade in grain, timber, and coal (by means of the river); mfrs. of thread, lace, straw-plait; and its corn market is one of the largest in England.
