Bruton, par. and market town with ry. sta., mid. Somerset, on river Brue, 2 miles E. of Bridgwater and 117 miles SW. of London, 3631 ac., pop. 1849; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. Market-day, Saturday; has a fine old English Perpendicular church; in the market-place is an ancient hexagonal cross; a good cattle show is held annually in October.
