Carisbrooke, par. and vil., Isle of Wight, 1 mile SW. of Newport, 8613 ac., pop. 8304; P.O.; has a very ancient castle, in which Charles I. was confined (1647-8). In 1859 a Roman villa was discovered at Carisbrooke.
