Chirk, par. and vil. with ry. sta., SE. Denbighshire, on river Ceiriog, 9 miles SW. of Wrexham and 192 miles NW. of London, 4773 ac. (90 water), pop. 2171; P.O., t.o. Market-day, Saturday. The Ellesmere Canal is carried across the river here by an aqueduct; there is also a railway viaduct. In the neighbourhood of the vil. are coal mines. Chirk Castle is 1½ mile W. of sta.
