Clipstone, township, Edwinstowe par., Sherwood Forest, N. Notts, on river Maun, 3 m. NE. of Mansfield, 3910 ac., pop. 256; the Duke of Portland's irrigation meadows and canal are situated at C.; 5 miles NE. of Mansfield are the ruins of Clipstone Palace, said to have been erected by one of the Saxon kings of Northumbria; it was a favourite resort of the Norman kings, who came to hunt in Sherwood Forest.
