Dollar, town and par. with ry. sta., Clackmannanshire, at the foot of the Ochil Hills, near river Devon, 6 miles NE. of Alloa, 41 NW. of Edinburgh, and 432 NW. of London -- par., 4773 ac., pop. 2500; town, pop. 2014; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank; coal and sandstone are plentiful; copper, iron, and lead were formerly mined in the Ochils, a little above the town; on the banks of the Devon are numerous bleachfields. Dollar is chiefly noted for its excellent Academy, founded (1818) by Captain John Macuab, a native of the par.
