Hampstead, parl. bor. and par., Middlesex, in NW. of London, 2248 ac., pop. 45,452. Hampstead Heath is here, and one of the old inns (now a private residence) was the meeting-place of the Kit-Cat Club, of which Addison, Steel, Marlborough, and Walpole were members. The locality is otherwise famed in literary history, and the graveyard contains some interesting monuments. Hampstead returns 1 member to Parliament; it was made a parl. bor. in 1885.
