Hungerford.-- market town and par. with ry. sta., partly in Wilts, bnt chiefly in Berks, on river Kennet, 27 miles SW. of Reading and 61½ miles W. of Lonndon by rail, 5836 ac., pop. 2965; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. Market-day, Wednesday. The town is traversed by the old Roman road to Bath. Its situation on the Kennet, a fine trout stream, makes Hungerford a favourite resort of anglers; in vicinity of town is the seat of Hungerford Park.
