Keighley (pronounced Keithley), mun. bor., market town, and par., N. div. West-Riding Yorkshire, 9 miles NW. of Bradford and 222 miles from London by rail - par., 10,132 ac., pop. 30,395; bor., 1850 ac., pop. 25,247; 3 Banks, 2 newspapers. Market-day, Wednesday. Through the variety and importance of its mfrs. Keighley during recent years has made great progress. Among its industries are the Bradford stuff trade, the mfr. of weaving machinery and tools, also washing, wringing, and sewing machines, and large works for the making of iron implements of many descriptions, including gas and water mains. The town is pleasantly situated among the hills surrounding Airedale. Keighley was incorporated in 1882.
