Leyton.-- town and par. with ry. sta., Essex, 1 mile N. of Stratford, and 5¼ miles NE. of Liverpool Street sta., London - par. (Low Leyton), 2370 ac., pop. 23,016; town (comprising Low Leyton par. and part of Wanstead par.), 2577 ac., pop. 27,068; P.O., T. O.; is an ancient place, and has yielded many relics of the Roman occupation. Many fine suburban residences are here. Leyton is a local government dist.
