Longridge.-- small manufacturing town with ry. sta., Eibchester par., N. Lancashire, on SW. side of Longridge Fell, 6 ¼ miles NE. of Preston, pop. 3705; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. Longridge is a populous and thriving place, and has nail-making, cotton-spinning, and mfrs. of cotton fabrics. An extensive transport trade in building-stone from the neighbouring quarries is carried on by rail. The railway was opened to Longridge in 1840. Water reservoirs for Preston are here. Longridge Fell extends 54 miles NE. from Longridge to vicinity of the river Hodder, at the boundary with Yorkshire.
