Macduff, seaport town, police burgh, and quoad sacra par. with ry. sta., Gamrie par., Banff shire, on E. side of mouth of river Deveron, opposite Banff - par., pop. 4104; police burgh, pop. 3641; town, pop. 3050; P.O., T.O., 2 Banks. Macduff, which dates from 1732, is for parliamentary purposes included in the burgh of Banff, but is municipally distinct. It has considerable trade, possessing one of the best harbours on the Moray Firth, greatly enlarged and improved in 1877. The herring fishery is carried on. The beach affords excellent sea-bathing, and in the summer months there is a considerable number of visitors. A new town hall was opened in 1885.
