Otley.-- market town, par., and township with ry. sta., E. div. West-Riding Yorkshire, on river Wharfe, 10 miles N. of Bradford and 196½ miles from London - par., 23,759 ac., pop. 17,787; town and township, 2370 ac., pop. 6806; P.O., T.O., 3 Banks, 1 newspaper. Market-day, Friday. Otley appears in Domesday Book as Othelia. It occupies a fine situation, and has many interesting associations. Machine-making is the principal industry; there are also worsted and leather mfrs., tanning, brick and tile making, printing, &c., and a good trade in agricultural produce.
