Pateley Bridge, market town with ry. sta., Ripon par., E. div. West-Riding Yorkshire, on river Nidd, 14 miles NW. of Harrogate and 212 miles NW. of London, pop. 3197; P.O., T.O., 3 Banks. Market-day, Saturday. Lead mines and stone quarries are numerous here, and active industries are carried on in flaxspinning and brewing; there are also important cattle and sheep fairs. Four miles from the town is a curious and beautiful series of caverns, encrusted with stalactites and stalagmites, discovered in 1860.
