Putney, town and par., Surrey, on right bank of river Thames, opposite Fulham, and within the parliamentary limits of Wandsworth, 5f miles SW. of Waterloo sta., London, by rail, and 7 miles from London Bridge by water, 2235 ac., pop. 13,235. Putney is the headquarters of the rowing world. A little above the bridge is the starting-point for the University boat-race, of which the course ends at Mortlake.
