Redcar, town and township with ry. sta., North-Riding Yorkshire, 7½ miles NE. of Middlesbrough - township, 604 ac. and 238 foreshore, pop. 2297; town, 900 ac., pop. 2458; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank, 2 newspapers; the township is wholly in Marske near Redcar par., the town is partly also in Upleatham par. Redcar (with the adjoining village of Coatham) is a favourite sea-bathing resort. Its smooth firm sands, stretching from the mouth of the Tees to Saltburn, are 10 m. in length.
