Lancashire - dist., pop. 429; township, 2768 ac., pop. 330; vil., 4 miles SE. of Chorley; P.O.; the vil. overlooks the reservoir of the Liverpool water-works; in vicinity is Rivington Hall, seat; Rivington Pike, 1545 ft. high, had formerly a beacon.
