Saltney, township and vil. with ry. sta., Ha warden par., Flintshire - township (partly within the parl. limits of Chester), 2302 ac., pop. 2300; bor. part, pop. 1986; vil., on river Dee, 2 miles SW. of Chester; P.O., T.O.; has risen rapidly in importance as a place of coasting trade; has wharf and docks, and is the nearest and most convenient outlet for the central districts of Wales and the mining fields of Shropshire and Staffordshire. Saltney has extensive ironworks for the mfr. of anchors and chain cables.
