Shifnal (or Shiffnall), market town and par. with ry. sta., Shropshire, 17 miles E. of Shrewsbury - par., 11,441 ac., pop. 6812; town, pop. 3531; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Tuesday. Shifnal (anciently Idesall, or Idsal) occupies a picturesque position, and is a place of great antiquity. The church of St Andrew is the principal architectural feature ef the town. The industrial establishments include iron foundries, rolling and slitting mills, blast furnaces, and coal and iron mines. In addition to the weekly markets there are several fairs.
