Tipton, town and par., Staffordshire, within the parl. limits of Wednesbury, 1½ mile N. of Dudley and 8½ miles NW. of Birmingham by rail, 2697 ac., pop. 30,013; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank; has numerous extensive furnaces, and mfrs. of heavy iron-work for railways, pit chains, cables and anchors, steam-engine boilers, fire-irons, &c.
