Uppingham, market town and par. (ry. sta. Seaton and Uppingham), Rutland, 6 miles S. of Oakham and 83 N. of London, 1210 ac., pop. 2549; P.O., T.O., 3 Banks, 1 newspaper. Market-day, Wednesday. Uppingham has a famous grammar-school, founded in the time of Elizabeth and rebuilt in 1863. Jeremy Taylor (1613-1667) was rector.
