Virginia Water, eccl. dist. and ry. sta., Egham par., Surrey, 2½ miles NW. of Chertsey and 23 SW. of London, pop. 1101. Virginia Water, lake, 1½ mile W. of sta., lies in the S. of Windsor Great Park, and is partly in Berks; it was formed by the Duke of Cumberland, the victor at Culloden, and is the largest artificial sheet of water in England, measuring 2¼ miles by ¼ to ½ mile; among its attractions are the ruins from Corinth and Carthage, the Belvidere Fort, the Fishing Temple, and the miniature Adelaide frigate.
