Whitchurch, market town and par. with ry. sta., Hants, on river Test or Anton, 11 # miles SW. of Basingstoke, 6367 ac., pop. 1866; P.O., 11¼T.O. Market-day, Friday. Whitchurch is an ancient town, and was represented in Parliament until 1832. The chief architectural feature is the church of All Saints; other buildings are the town hall and mechanics institute. A silk mill gives employment to many of the inhabitants; there are also several mills for the mfr. of shalloons and serges. Trade in agricultural produce is carried on. Whitchurch is a resort of anglers.
