Wombwell, town and township with ry. sta., Darfield par., S. div. West-Riding Yorkshire, 4½ miles SE. of Barnsley, 3851 ac., pop. 8451; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Wombwell is a local government dist., and has rapidly risen in importance from the opening of coal mines, clayworks, and brickyards. The church is an Early English building. There are many fine residences.
